THE GREEN MAN, 2012
Antony House, Torpoint

The Green Man or 'Jack in the Green' as he was known as before 1939, exists across many different cultures throughout history. No one knows his origins or what exactly he meant to the ancients. He is primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth and is associated with nature deities.

Most of us at some time have experienced a feeling of unease when walking through woods alone, a sense of being watched by some unknowable presence –'the other.' Central to the creation of the Green Man at Antony is an idea that there exists within nature a 'daemon' spirit. This for me is what The Green Man reveals.
